Alyssa Del Angel joined Be Strong Families in January of 2022. The main focus for Alyssa is on the Youth Advisory Affinity Groups (YAAG) in partnership with Illinois Department of Child and Family Services (IDCFS), for youth in care. The YAAG has been formed to give voice to the EDI issues that Illinois youth in care experience statewide through support, education, coaching, and advocacy. Alyssa will also drive the continuous EDI learning and development within Be Strong Families.
Alyssa began their journey working with youth in care in the last semester of their Political Science undergraduate degree in 2012 with UCAN. This led to a continuation of working with youth and almost seven years on EDI with another youth-serving organization. In this, Alyssa was listening to youth voices, creating more representation, and established a supportive environment. In 2019, Alyssa graduated with a Masters in Community Development and Action focusing on empowering communities. Having resources and access can make a significant difference to individuals, families, and communities.
